Category first: BDM vs. ADM
Before any number, decide what the audience does with the image, because that choice sets size, distance, and contrast. Basic Decision Making (BDM) means the viewer comprehends content — reads the slide, follows the keynote, sees the product — without needing every pixel; most corporate and live-event screens are BDM. Analytical Decision Making (ADM) means the viewer must resolve every element of detail (medical imaging, CAD, forensic, fine-art reproduction). When in doubt for a general audience design to BDM; if anyone must read fine detail to do their job, it is ADM.
The exam is drawn from this material, and you need a perfect score to earn the credential. You can retake it as many times as you need.
